Before I’ll start this anime wasn’t in my preview for this season. After looking up most of them I gave this show a chance. After 2 episodes in, I’m in love with it. It’s drastically different in terms of presentation. You get placeholder crowds, blatant ads, song numbers, transformation sequences, flamboyantly gay men, cross-dressing, drugs, and more!

The anime focuses on three boys, namely Kazuki, Kuji, and Toi. They all hold boxes containing their innermost secrets. One day they went to a kappa statue and destroyed it causing the Kappa Prince to appear where the boys are obligated to get a Shirikodama from kappa zombies. While getting the Shirikodama the secrets of each character is leaked in the process. Once they get it, a Plate of Hope is given that grants any wish one desires. Sounds direct, right? Well, that’s only until when you actually watch the show.
When you boil it down, it’s a coming-of-age story tackling identity, relationships, secrets, and most importantly, desires. I applaud this show for bringing something new to the table. Having shows like this gives me a good reason why I love this medium so much. If I have the time, I may watch other shows by the same director, Kunihiko Ikuhara.
In case if I forget, this anime relies on foreshadowing. So you have to be keen on your eyes to look for any nods they’ll put up in the coming episodes. It’s still early on this season and there’s a LOT of things happening here.
